How Lumi started and where we are heading in 2026
After 2 years, Lumi is now being used by 200,000+ educators, across 67 countries, and this is just the beginning. Learn how we're changing education, one teacher at a time.

Jan Philip
Co-Founder Lumi
Lumi began in a small classroom in Germany.
One teacher.
A few students.
And a simple thought, there must be a better way to learn.
I, Jan Philip, was a physics teacher who believed lessons could feel alive again.
That learning could be fun, personal, and built on curiosity, not routine.
After school hours, with no big team or budget, I built the first version of Lumi, not for the world, but for my class and my students.
It started small.
Then it grew, from one classroom to hundreds, then thousands.
Today, over 200,000 educators in more than 60 countries use Lumi to make learning meaningful again.
But the idea never changed.
We believe teachers are the heart of education.
They shape minds, spark ideas, and carry the weight of a better future on their shoulders.
They deserve tools that care for them as much as they care for their students.
Too many platforms forgot who they were built for.
They became cluttered, complex, and distant from real classrooms.
Lumi is built to be the opposite: simple, human, and ready to fit the way teachers already teach.
We adapt to them, not the other way around.
We believe good design should give time back.
That teaching should feel less like managing, and more like inspiring.
That sharing knowledge shouldn’t depend on privilege, but on passion and craft.
Education is not about technology, it’s about people.
About giving every teacher the chance to reach their students, wherever they are.
About giving every student the chance to see what they’re capable of.
Lumi began with one teacher who dared to try.
Now it belongs to every teacher who still believes learning can change the world.
